One of my favorite pastimes is reading. My nightstand is piled high with books, and my reading list seems endless. Since my work revolves around leadership and business, I try to balance my reading with non-fiction selections. I am particularly drawn to strong female characters and historical fiction, often finding parallels between women in history and contemporary women leaders.
Recently, I overheard a younger woman discussing a community project led by older women. Her remarks stopped me in my tracks. We often hear negative comments about younger generations, but this time, the roles were reversed. As someone who belongs to an older generation, I felt hurt by her words. It made me reflect on the strides my generation and the one before me have made to create opportunities for today's younger generations.
